Early beginnings

Although Kindergarten is not a compulsory year of schooling for children in Western Australia, “The early years of school build on the experiences your child has at home and sets the foundation for all future learning” Hello Kindergarten”, Dept. of WA Education 2017.

At Roleystone Community College we invite new parents to a “Welcome to Kindy” meeting before their child starts Kindy where they will meet the school staff and are able to take a tour of the school. Many of the aspects of what to expect are covered and parents have the opportunity to ask questions.

Topics are covered such as:

  • What to expect when you arrive on the first day
  • What can you do before your child comes to Kindy
  • What a normal morning at kindy looks like

Where every student is capable of successful learning

We have consulted Occupational and Speech therapists and now have a wealth of resources to support these early aspects of development.

A unique feature of the children’s play time is Nature play. Our Nature Play area provides sensory stimulation and is situated in a natural bush section of the grounds with a created creek running through the bush allowing the opportunity for water play in a safe environment. During their exploration they will use and develop thinking or cognitive skills as they observe, explore, create, ask questions, and solve problems within the natural world.

Our advice in preparing for kindy is based on the natural developmental journey that each child takes as they grow and progress through their schooling. There is also a range of online booklets and factsheets filled with fun ideas and activities you can do at home with your child.
