THE ARTS

Overview

The Arts programme at Roleystone Community College offers many varied opportunities for all students. All primary students receive tuition in Music, the basics of Drama and an introduction to Visual (Fine) Arts techniques as well as Digital media as part of the Specialist Integrated Art Program. This aids in preparation for their transition to more specialised studies in their secondary schooling years.

For students in years 8 – 10, the college's Film and Television (Digital Media) Specialist Studies programme, Visual (Fine) Arts, Digital Graphic Art, Music and Drama form the basis of the programme, with students studying some of these subjects using the Film and TV programme as a medium for expression and display of their work.

The college has an excellent Year 5/6 choir that consistently achieves great success in regional and state level choral festivals. Instrumental studies are also an important part of the music programme, with a view to expanding the level of participation of secondary students over the next few years.

Talented Art Students Enter Prestigious Art Award

Exciting news at Roleystone Community College with two students entering artwork into this year’s Shaun Tan Art Award, run by the City of Subiaco.

Roleystone Community College Art teacher Anita Littlewood says work created by Year 10 students, Bethany Francis and Jude Glasgow, are worthy entries to be submitted this year for judging.

Mrs Littlewood says they’re both dedicated and hardworking students.

Finalists this year will be announced in late June, with prizes and award sponsors presented to the top three entries in each category.

A selection of the best artworks will be featured in a month long public exhibition at the Subiaco Library, with all exhibited artists receiving professional framing or mounting for their works.

Check out Bethany and Jude’s artwork in an article in the recent edition of the local Examiner Newspaper.
