Recently RCC Music Specialist Teacher, Jane Slater, and local musician Chris Horgan, have been hosting the Torchlight Youth Mentoring project.
This is a community initiative sponsored and funded by the City of Armadale and the Roleystone Community College P & C.
The youth ensemble was expected to play at a number of events this year but because of COVID-19 restrictions, they were cancelled.
So the group, with help from musicians from the Jarrah Celtic Band, Kim Bettenay and John Perry, focused on recording their performances for a public digital release.
The group took over the Media Studio at RCC and set it up as a music studio, recording two songs, ‘Touch the Sky’ and ‘Parting Glass’.
Five of our students, Ruby Mamakos, Kaelyn McLean, Breeanna Hartshorn, Ruby Watts and Lily Haskett got the job of providing back-up vocals for ‘Parting Glass’.
A wonderful experience for our students, and a very worthy community project for our local youth.
